Course objectives:
The programme aims to empower students with special educational needs (SEN) by equipping them
with essential industry-specific practical skills and vital generic competencies necessary for employment, further education, and active citizenship. The program emphasizes lifelong learning, fostering the ability to learn how to learn, and promoting positive attitudes for continuous personal development. It combines theoretical knowledge with practical application to provide the technical and professional expertise required for paraprofessional careers in the hotel and hospitality sectors.
The curriculum includes Generic Skills Modules such as Vocational English and Whole Person
Development Modules that cover social skills, interview techniques, and interpersonal skills.
Additionally, the Vocational Modules focus on specific departments within hospitality. The program
also features one-on-one sessions aimed at identifying each student's strengths and enhancing their
interview skills, ensuring they are well-prepared for work experience placements. Furthermore,
career-planning seminars for SEN youth and their families aid in participant recruitment, while
customized vocational and social skills training prepares students for successful placements in
participating corporations, which also offer a 59-day Work Experience contract to ensure practical
exposure and skill application.

Module and Class:
Generic Skills Modules (34 hours):
1. Vocational English (4 hours)
2. Overview of property management operations, restaurant, and kitchen operation, hotel and serviced apartment operation (10 hours)
3. Whole Person Development Modules (20 hours)
● Achieving Personal Growth & Effectiveness
This module focuses on empowering students to realize their full potential and enhance their effectiveness in various aspects of life.
● Interpersonal Skills: Collaboration, Teamwork & Social Engagement
Students will develop essential interpersonal skills to foster collaboration and teamwork, enhancing their ability to engage with peers and contribute positively to group dynamics.
● Interview Skills
This module provides practical training in interview techniques, equipping students with the confidence and skills necessary to succeed in job interviews.
● One-on-One Training Sessions
Personalized training sessions will focus on self-understanding, helping students identify their strengths and map out a clear personal development path for future employment.
● Individual Counseling and Follow-Up Services
Comprehensive counseling services will assist students in navigating interpersonal relationships, psychological and emotional challenges, behavioral adjustments, and family dynamics. When necessary, case referral services will be provided to ensure students receive the support they need.
● Individual Education Plan (IEP)
Each student will receive an Individual Education Plan designed to identify tailored learning support and recommendations for diverse teaching strategies. This plan will be shared with parents, teachers, and industry partners to ensure a holistic approach to the student's development, ensuring they are well-supported by all parties involved.
Vocational Modules (59 days)
Industrial attachment program that provides students with opportunities to apply the knowledge gained in their lessons, enhance their employment skills, and boost their competitiveness in the job market. Through the "Social Enterprise Mode of Practical Training" students will gain valuable work experience, preparing them for future workplace engagement while fostering strong work habits and positive attitudes.
● Placement Matching
Student Counselors will collaborate with Class Teachers and Support Service Staff to identify suitable industrial attachments based on each student's abilities and interests. Pre-placement counseling will be provided to help students adapt effectively to their roles.
Placement will be available in various departments, including:
○ Front Office Department
○ Food and Beverage Department
○ Housekeeping Department
○ Back of the House Department (Procurement and Inventory Management, Information Technology)
○ Property Management
● Workplace Visits
Counselors will visit students at their workplaces and liaise with peers to assess performance and identify needs, helping students acclimate to their work environment and build confidence.
● Continuous Support
Counselors will discuss further learning arrangements with Class T eachers if the employment requires additional trade skills that need to be developed. Counselors will also collaborate with students' employers and supervisors, and will co-assess student performance during the placement.
● Basic Allowance
Students are encouraged to receive an allowance to cover their basic expenses during this
valuable experience.

- 個別教育計劃(IEP)
每位學生將獲得一個個別教育計劃,以識別量身定制的學習支持和多樣的教學策略建議。該計劃將與家長、教師和行業夥伴分享,以確保對學生發展的全面支持。

學生輔導員將與班主任和支持服務人員合作,根據每位學生的能力和興趣識別合適的實習機會。將提供預安置輔導,幫助學生有效適應他們的角色。安置將涵蓋多個部門,包括:

- 客房部門
- 後勤部門(採購和庫存管理、信息技術)
- 物業管理
- 工作場所訪問
輔導員將定期訪問學生的工作場所,與同事聯繫以評估表現和識別需求,幫助學生適應工作環境並建立信心。
- 持續支持
如果工作需要進一步的技能發展,輔導員將與班主任討論後續學習安排。輔導員還將與學生的雇主和主管合作,並在實習期間共同評估學生表現。

Dr. Delores Lau, CHE®
Dr. Delores Lau is a highly accomplished professional with a diverse background in education, special educational needs (SEN), and hospitality. She is a certified SEN education specialist, the founder of DAX Education Centre Limited and the Chief Executive Officer of Dax Child Development and Therapy Centre (Social Enterprise), a leading provider of quality education and support services in Hong Kong.
Dr. Lau has studied in Hong Kong, the USA, and Switzerland, earning a doctorate in Hospitality Management from the Hong Kong Polytechnic University. Her early career includes hands-on experience in the hotel industry, along with hotel training qualifications and a university lectureship in hotel management. She is also a Certified Hospitality Educator.
Dr. Lau's passion for inclusive education is evident in her work with DAX, which operates three campuses in Tsuen Wan, Tuen Mun and Yuen Long. DAX offers systematic learning improvement programs, ensuring quality education and support for students of all abilities. Her commitment to inclusive education has garnered recognition from the Hong Kong Dyslexia Association and accreditation from the International Dyslexia Association. Additionally, Dr. Lau is a certified instructor in positive psychology, specializing in addressing specific learning difficulties in reading and writing.
Beyond the classroom, Dr. Lau actively promotes inclusive education through special education seminars for community childcare centres. Her dedication to social responsibility has earned DAX the prestigious ESG CONNECT Gold Certificate from the Hong Kong Quality Assurance Agency (HKQAA), making it the first special education service organization to receive this honor.

Completion of 59-day work experience placement and class participation and attendance no less than 80%.
