About the Role

1. Provide one-on-one counseling and support services to individuals and families on various social, emotional, and mental health-related issues.
2. Conduct assessments, developing treatment plans, and facilitating therapeutic interventions.
3. Connect clients with community resources, support groups, and other services as needed.
4. Design and facilitate support groups, educational workshops, or therapeutic group sessions.
5. Develop and implement community-based programs and initiatives that address specific social needs.
6. Collaborating with organizations, schools, or government agencies to develop and deliver these programs.
7. Advocate for client rights and ensuring access to necessary social services and resources.
8. Navigate complex systems and bureaucracies on behalf of clients to secure benefits, housing, or other assistance.
9. Coordinate with other professionals, such as healthcare providers, legal experts, or government agencies, to ensure comprehensive case management.
10. Provide consultation services to organizations, businesses, or policymakers on social welfare issues.
11. Conduct training sessions and workshops for professionals, volunteers, or community members on topics related to social work, mental health, or social services.
12. Conduct research on social issues, trends, and emerging needs within the community.
13. Evaluate the effectiveness of existing social service programs and making recommendations for improvement.
12. Disseminate research findings and insights to relevant stakeholders.
13. Build and maintain relationships with other social service providers, community organizations, and relevant stakeholders.
14. Participate in professional associations, conferences, or networking events to stay informed about the latest developments in the field.
15. Collaborate with other freelance or independent social workers on projects or initiatives.

Requirements

  • Educational Credentials:

    • A bachelor's or master's degree in social work (BSW or MSW) from an accredited university or college.

    • In some cases, a degree in a related field, such as psychology, counseling, or human services, may be accepted.

    • Specialized training or certifications in areas like mental health, addiction, or trauma-informed care can be advantageous.

    • Possession of a valid and active social work license or registration.

  • Relevant Experience:

    • Prior experience working as a social worker, either in an agency, non-profit, or healthcare setting.

    • Hands-on experience in areas such as case management, counseling, program development, or community engagement.

    • Demonstrated ability to work independently and manage a caseload or project-based work.

  • Specialized Knowledge and Skills:

    • Proficiency in evidence-based practices, therapeutic techniques, and intervention strategies.

    • Understanding of relevant laws, regulations, and policies governing social services and client rights.

    • Strong communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.

    • Proficiency in documentation, data management, and report writing.

    • Familiarity with community resources and referral networks.

  • Continuing Education and Professional Development:

    • Commitment to ongoing learning and staying current with emerging trends, best practices, and ethical standards in the social work field.

    • Participation in professional development opportunities, such as workshops, seminars, or conferences.

    • Compliance with any continuing education requirements for maintaining professional licensure or certification.

  • Business and Entrepreneurial Skills:

    • Ability to market and promote their services effectively.

    • Knowledge of business and financial management, including invoicing, record-keeping, and tax compliance.

    • Strong organizational and time management skills to manage multiple clients and projects.
